For the Love of Music: The Fontaine Brothers11/14/2012 |
Bored of the same old music on your I-pod? Are you finally growing tired of listening to the five top played artists in your I-tunes? New in the music scene are twin brothers, Luke and Ike Fontaine, and they have just what you need to spice up your music selection. With a father who was a member of a bluegrass band, and thus having grown up with music around all of the time, these brothers were destined for musical greatness. Once they got their first guitar lesson, at age seven, from their grandmother, their passion for the art was ignited. They soon learned how to play, and once they understand the methods “the rest was history,” according to the brothers. Luke and Ike grew up on a farm in Duxbury, Massachusetts, where they grew cranberries and sailed for fun. Upon their graduation from high school, they jumped right into the music industry. They signed with Mad River Productions, an indie record label out of New Hampshire, and hired True North for the communication and marketing of the duet. Other than music, they teach both sailing and skiing in their spare time. |
Foodie Blog: Take a Break From Studying to Visit Anna's Taqueria!5/2/2012 |
A few weeks ago, my co-editor, Mackenzie, and I had the opportunity to dine at one of Boston’s locally owned hidden treasures, Anna’s Taqueria. We were in for quite the treat. Now, I have been to this delightful Mexican restaurant once before. Of course I didn’t venture far from my usual order, plain chicken tacos with guacamole and cheese. But this time was different; we were able to sample some of Anna’s finest traditional Mexican cuisine, all in one sitting. Nevertheless, we were about to explode after, but it was well worth it! Here’s a deeper look into some delicious drinks and dishes that we indulged ourselves in, so you can get a better idea of what Anna's has to offer on your next trip there!
Then came the food…

Alden Copley: Contra Theory Clothing Line4/19/2012 |
Transfer student, and sophomore here at Suffolk University, Alden Copley, does it all! He not only founded this clothing company, along with co-founder Ian Costello, but also builds the website, designs, and even sews the clothes! His unique clothing line, Contra Theory, has so much more involved than meets the eye. I was intrigued, and wanted to hear the more in depth story about this talented individual, and the drive behind the brand. So I asked him to give us the lowdown on himself as well as his up and coming clothing line.
Major: Graphic Design A: Contra Theory is a clothing company A: I am a co-founder, so the other founder, Ian Costello, and I pretty much split all the duties of running a business. We design the clothes, place orders, sew (a lot), design and build the website, produce all the content for the website, send out orders, try to manage finances, and yell at each other.(haha) But on the fun side we get to do PR, such as going to events at stores who stock our product, and collaborating with similar companies.
Q: What drove you to start this business? |

Paul Sharpe4/17/2012 |
Full Name: Paul Sharpe Academic Year: Freshman Hometown: North Plymouth, MA Relationship Status: Single Favorite movie and why? Grandmas Boy. For some reason between the cast, ridiculous plot, and guy humor, I think its the funniest movie ever. Any movie with Jonah Hill, Nick Swardson, or Peter Dante is going to be hilarious so all of them together is amazing. |

Managing a band can be hard work, you have to book shows, organize recording sessions, and keep the band in tact. It’s a crucial role to play in the formation of a successful band. This week’s campus celebrity, Chris Marshall, has big dreams of managing his own record label one day, and is sure off to a good start with his current job as the band manager of Thumbs Up Get Down. Chris has been managing this band since high school, and in the transition to college has remained an eminent part of their growth and success. Chris has watched the band evolve into what it is today, so I asked him some questions about his duties, the band, and future goals. |
