Get Social with Bing and Her Campus!

5/17/2012

Hey collegiettes™!

As the school year comes to a close, you no longer have to use search engines for boring school stuff anymore. Gone are the days where you have to search for philosophical theories or stats for your research paper. Now you can search for directions to the beach, cute summer internship outfits, and tasty summer restaurants!

And just in time, Bing is changing the way you search. They’re amping up the way you get information, and adding friends, family, experts and enthusiasts into the mix!

By partnering with popular social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, and coming soon Quora, FourSquare, LinkedIn and more, Bing is bringing your friends into search! When you search for something, Bing also offers up your Facebook friends who might know about your search based on their ‘likes’, profile or recent photos they have shared. Additionally, Bing will identify experts and enthusiasts across Twitter and from blogs to bring you even more information on what you’re looking for. And if all else fails, Bing allows you to ask a question right within the search experience to get help from your Facebook friends, so you can get answers and opinions.

Plus, Bing makes it easy to help your friends with their searches. With the activity feed you can answer questions, provide advice, and give opinions on the topics that your friends are searching for.

HC Fordham Supports Erdman-Reynolds

3/30/2012

Friday is the final day to cast your ballot for Rose Hill's United Student Government elections. Sometimes, it's hard to know what impact, if any, USG has on the quality of academic and student life here at Fordham. That stigma, however, doesn't stop Stephen Erdman, FCRH '13, and Aileen Reynolds, FCRH '14, from wanting to make USG -- and Fordham -- even better. And that's why Her Campus Fordham is pleased to endorse Erdman-Reynolds for Executive President and Vice-President of USGRH for 2012-2013.

For starters, Stephen's running his campaign from the Dominican Republic while he studies abroad. If anything, this shows his passion and committment to the Fordham community. Stephen has been involved in USG since his freshman year, and is also involved with the Dorothy Day Center for Service & Justice, Urban Plunge, and Rose Hill Society. Aileen has also served on USG since her freshman year, and is also part of FUEMS, RHS, and NSO. (You can learn more about the candidates' backgrounds here.)

Stephen and Aileen have an extensive list of goals for USG (you can read their platform here), and they certainly have their fair share of points that would make the Fordham experience better for collegiettes. The highlights:

Let the Sun Shine

Fordham students enjoy the glorious weather on Edward's Parade. Teachers should really cancel class on days like these!

What to Watch on Netflix When You Stay in on Valentine's Day

2/11/2012

For two years now, I have been in a wonderful relationship. My significant other always tends to my immediate needs, provides emotional support, makes me laugh, and is consistently dependable.  As long as there’s an Internet connection.

No collegiettes™, I’m not talking about an eHarmony boo, or someone I met on Craigslist (ew?). I’m talking about the singular love of my life up until this point (besides, you know, my dog): My Netflix Instant Account.

This Valentine’s day, I’m planning a wonderful evening with Netflix. And you’re all invited! In fact, if you’re staying in, join me in working our way through some of the most romantic options Netflix Instant has to offer.

Never Been Kissed: Journey back to Drew Barrymore’s glory days in the late 90s with this high-school rom com. Never Been Kissed is a classic that tells the story of journalist Josie Geller, a former nerd who returns to school to write an expose on the very teens that kissed her. She gets a little hot for teacher along the way, but will Josie ever get to fall in love?

Charade: Looking for romance with a side dish of mystery and suspense? Look no further than Charade, an underrated Audrey Hepburn thriller that keeps viewers guessing the whole movie. As an added bonus, you get to stare at Cary Grant for 113 amazing minutes. Bring your tissues to catch your drool.

Holiday Contest Winner!

12/17/2011

Congrats to our winners, Bianca Batis-Gelpi and Jillian Minahan! Check out their awesome Christmas decorations:

This is what Bianca had to say about their room: My roommate Jillian and I both live in room 201 (a tower room) in O'Hare Hall. We're depressed because we are part of the few upperclassmen in our dorm, and figured we'd spruce up our room with holiday festivities for Christmas.

We won our floor's decorating contest, and we used wrapping paper as a background, with a big "Noel" sign, as well as stockings and christmas lights. We also threw some santas up there just for the heck of it. We strung up some garlands with glass balls from our ceiling, and put lights up around our little nook area since we have a tower room. We also have snowflake decals on the windows, as well as a Christmas tree. Just want to get into the Christmas spirit while being miserable about finals!
