Alicia Doyle Does It All

9/14/2012

Our first Campus Celebrity of the year is senior Alicia Doyle. Alicia is from Long Island, New York, studying Strategic Communications here at High Point. She had the opportunity to go to the DNC in Charlotte last week and work behind the scenes as a part of the action. In addition to working the DNC, Alicia is a member of Zeta Tau Alpha, on Panhellenic Council, serves as Manager for Rent the Runway at HPU, and is the Campus It Girl for Rent the Runway, providing a closet of designer dresses for you to look fabulous in. We sat down with Alicia when she had a free minute (which is hard to believe!) to get an exclusive look at her feelings on the DNC.

HC: So tell me about how you got this opportunity.
AD: Well, I was a summer intern with Fox News Channel in New York City this summer. I worked in the Production Department, which is where all of the behind the scenes convention planning went on, both for the RNC and the DNC. I got along so well with my team, and they invited me to work the DNC in Charlotte because I was so close by at HPU!

HC: That’s awesome! So what exactly are your responsibilities?
AD: Technically, I’m a runner and a runner’s responsibilities are a little bit different than what I’ve been doing, just because of my previous experience with Fox and how things work. So as we begin to go live from Charlotte with all of the shows, I’m in charge of greeting guests, making sure the anchors get to hair and makeup on time, and making sure that guests enter and exit the studios quickly and quietly without messing up the flow of the show. For the most part, the guests have been on with our anchors in NY and DC, and are privy to the way things work at the conventions. I met Karl Rove and Bret Baier!

A Toast To the Class of 2012

5/4/2012

Tomorrow morning is the day seniors have been both waiting for and dreading: graduation.

In four short years, futures were shaped, friendships were made, and relationships were formed. If you know any seniors, you know that High Point will be losing some extraordinary people to the real world after tomorrow.

But rather than dwell on what's lost, here's a toast:

To all the nights spent at Liberty when you should have been in the library, all the days spent at the pool when you should have been in class, all the money spent on Cookout that should have been put towards tuition, and all the memories you made, including those that you may not remember....here's to the best 4 years of your life.

A big congratulations to the Class of 2012! hcxo

It's Crunch Time

4/26/2012

The day has come-- final exams are beginning in a matter of hours. If you are one of the lucky ones, you have the weekend to prepare yourself. But for the rest of us poor, unfortunate souls, it's time to show what we know. Here are some hints and ideas to stay sane during crunch time.

Put It On Ice
I personally am an iced coffee addict. Instead of wasting all your Magic Meals at Starbucks, go to the Cafe and fill a cup with ice, add coffee, and sip your way to sanity again. And for those who can't stand the thought of trekking to Slane (all you lazy people in the UC, I'm lookin' at you) there are Keurig coffee machines in the Farmers Market all night long to fuel the addiction.

Stake Your Claim
The library isn't all it's cracked up to be. Find yourself getting more distracted than productive in Smith or the UC library? The Communications building offers nice little hideaways. Or sit in the comfy chairs at the Bakery, they even have music going for those of you who hate silence! Find a spot that works for you and keep going back.

Keep it Comfy
I give everyone full permission to live in leggings these next couple of days. If you're going to fall asleep while studying, might as well be comfortable.

Good luck!!! HCXO
