The Best Places in Massachusetts to Go Apple Picking10/31/2012 |
In the mood to snuggle indoors under a blanket as the weather turns crisp? We all are. But instead of curling up with a pumpkin spice latte, you can get the real deal if you visit one of the many scenic apple and pumpkin picking locations New England has to offer. Just rent a Zipcar, grab a few friends and head on over to any of these top fruit goldmines this fall: A few places to go: Honey Pot Hill Orchards With weekend hayrides and homemade treats, this idyllic farm is the ideal place to break up midterm season with a day filled with fun outdoor activities. And if simply getting lost in nature is your thing, the orchard recently opened up the Green Monster Hedge Maze, open on weekends until November 11. Baking delicious pumpkin pies, blueberry strudels, and of course, the classic favorite apple pie with the fresh fruit you can collect here is a great way to spend a brisk autumn afternoon. Russell Orchards Known for its exceptional bakery and fruit harvests, Russell Orchards. Although the farm’s apple picking season has ended, its annual Apples and Wine Festival will be taking place on November 3 and 4. The winery also hosts a large selection of wines and holds tastings on weekends, for those of you over 21. It’s best to plan a full-day trip, as there is oodles to do at Russell Orchards. I Feel Guilty for Following...3/8/2012 |
Twitter (noun): the only place where it’s acceptable to follow someone you admire. It’s our own semi-private outlet where we can feel free to give the world narcissistic updates on the daily. We can complain about the people sitting around us without being labeled as whiny. But the icing on the cake is that we can see what celebrities are up to without actually peering into their living room and getting slapped with a restraining order. |
What Sophia Grace Taught My Former Tutu-Sporting Self2/17/2012 |
I was casually browsing my Twitter feed the other afternoon when I spotted a tweet by Ellen DeGeneres that put the biggest smile on my face: “Sophia Grace and Rosie will be on my show tomorrow. My tutu is fluffed and ready.” |
It's TV Tiiiime on the "Jersey Shore" (And Everywhere Else)1/31/2012 |
Spring semester, I embrace you. The streets of Boston may be covered in slush and getting up for 8 AMs when all you want to do is melt into your mattress pad feels like jumping into the Charles River, but there's a silver light on the horizon. That's right: TV shows have returned for the home stretch before finale season. And because finales tend to take place while we college students are consumed with a similar-sounding but less fun activity, post-winter break is as good a time as any to get your couch potato on. There's no feeling like turning on your TV in January to hear that familiar school bell signaling the start of Glee. Confession: I am the biggest TV junkie you will ever meet. Modern Family, Dexter, Toddlers & Tiaras - you name it, I've watched it (and probably loved it). The return of new episodes is like Christmas on my screen. And to make the deal even sweeter, I now have my very own TV to help me keep up with the Kardashians. I know it sounds like I'll never be leaving those four walls most weeknights (Commitments? Friends? So last semester.), but you cannot imagine how happy this makes me. The only thing better than tuning into Max Greenfield's (New Girl) abs every Tuesday night is tuning into them in HD. TV has been pretty relevant in the news lately; if you haven't been living under a rock, you've probably heard about the demise of Megaupload and Megavideo due to SOPA. #FirstWorldProblems, anyone? While this proves slightly inconvenient for college students, it amuses me that the government currently places the integrity of television above world hunger, political unrest, and other prominent issues. |

Spinning Out of Control: Brian Chin10/24/2011 |
When you go away to college, there are many things you leave behind, whether those are memories of sitting in the bleachers cheering for your high school football team or awkward class photos or even just your mom’s homemade chocolate chip pancakes. But then there are those vital parts of your identity that you will always carry with you. It’s easy to feel lost on a campus as large as BU’s, but if you can take comfort in knowing where you came from, adjusting can be a lot more fluid. For Brian Chin (SMG ’12), his Chinese roots have always been an essential part of him in the form of a hobby that has grown into even more of a passion since coming to BU. Since the 7th grade, Brian has been performing the Chinese yo-yo, a popular art in China and Taiwan. |
