Music Blog: 'Tis the Season!12/19/2012 |
'Tis The Season Fa La La La La La La La La Mistletoe, Christmas cookies, ginger bread houses and chestnuts roasting on an open fire, are just a few of the many infamous holiday traditions. Though you may think you are now set with your holiday festivities, you are sadly mistaken. No holiday tradition is complete without the Christmas music! So here at HC Suffolk we compiled a list of some of the most beloved and traditional holiday tunes, but we didn’t stop just there. This traditional playlist has a bit of a spin to it. It includes artists who are near and dear to our hearts. Some of them are before our time, some have nearly raised us and made us the girls we are today and others are new and just beginning win us over. And remember, “The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear!” |
NHL Lockout 10112/7/2012 |
Calling all puck bunnies! Surprise, surprise, there is more to hockey than toe drags, dangles, and sexy sweaty boys. In case you haven’t noticed, the National Hockey League has yet to start the 2012-2013 season due to the mysterious “lockout.” Sounds exciting right? Like somewhere all the hockey studs of the world are just hanging out together waiting for you to find them. While that would be nice, it unfortunately isn’t the case. The NHL agreed to a labor contract for seven years. This September the contract ended and, naturally, all H-E- double hockey sticks broke loose. In that contract it was agreed that the players earned 57% of the revenue. Seems fair, given all the blood, sweat, and sexiness they out into the sport right? Well the owners (guys in suits) wanted to reduce that number to about 47%, and obviously the players weren’t too keen on that. So your probably wondering if the players are being greedy, after all they are making a killing for playing a game they love. Well that might be true, except for the fact that revenue has gone up yet they are asking the players to take pay cuts. So far they have eliminated games through December 14th. That’s a total of 422 games that the fans will be missing, which is 34.3% of the entire schedule, including the New Years Day Winter Classic and the NHL 2013 All-Star Weekend, which was scheduled for January 26th and 27th. |
Her Campus Suffolk Gets UNREAL!11/16/2012 |
Trick or treat? Well how about both! There is a new candy on the block and its kicking artificial ingredients and preservatives to the curb! It goes by the name of UNREAL candy, and trust us it truly is unreal! UNREAL wanted to make a candy that had the same great taste as all the others, but without all the junk. So consider this candy “unjunked.” Finally, a candy we can all feel good about, even supermodel, Gisele Bundchen, agrees! So you’re probably wondering how they make candy taste the same without all the junk in them. Well here is your answer, “Our UNREALTM candies have replaced the junk in candy with good stuff: double the cacao, more peanuts, real milk, cane sugar, and organic palm fruit oil. Naturally, without all this junk, we think the candy tastes better! But UNREALTM candies also have 30% less sugar, and 60% more fiber & 250% more protein on average per serving than other leading competing brands.” |
The Alternative Spring Break10/7/2012 |
Tan lines surely will fade, that lingering taste of piña colada soon disappears, and eventually, the sand that clung so closely to every item in your suitcase is gone, without a trace. But, without a doubt, your memories from spring break will be everlasting. Believe it or not, some students at Suffolk actually sacrifice all of that to make a difference, not just in their own lives, but in the lives of many others as well. Rather than vacationing to a tropical island, Suffolk offers students a unique and rewarding opportunity, called Alternative Spring Break. This is a program where students give up their weeklong spring break, and travel to different destinations around the country. The trips focus on poverty relief, environmental conservation, LGBTQ issues, equal rights, and community development. Students get to participate in hands on learning, as well as forming unforgettable bonds with other students, all while making a difference. If you think you have what it takes, and are interested in participating in this life changing opportunity, you can fill out an application, and bring it to the S.O.U.L.S office, located at Donahue 209. Applications are due by 5 PM October 10th! |

Welcome to college where nobody has curfews and everybody has late night munchies. And when I say everybody, I mean everybody. They say New York is the city that never sleeps, but us Bostonians could certainly hold our own in an insomniac duel. I mean lets be real, college students are basically zombies, we only have four years to cram in as much “studying” as we can. We’ll sleep when were dead (or graduated). So Rookies listen up, if your going to survive the late night munchies you’re going to need to know all the hot spots on campus where you can do it. Bova’s Bakery Felcaro Pizzeria |
