Alexandra Brenock
Alex is a sophomore at Saint Michel's College and is pursuing a degree in business administration. Alex is from Massachusetts but loves beautiful Vermont (minus the freezing cold, snowy winters)! She loves being involved on campus - besides running the Saint Mike's Branch of Her Campus, she is a tour guide and blogger for her college and a mentor to a second-grader. Alex plans on studying-abroad in Ireland her junior year and would love to move to Boston or New York City after graduation. She is uber passionate about social media and marketing and hopes to attend business school in the future. In her free time, Alex enjoys baking, taking naps, going to the movies with friends, and telling jokes about pirates.

Ben & Jerry's Annual Free Cone Day4/23/2013 |
On Tuesday, April 9th, Ben & Jerry’s held their annual Free Cone Day. This is a day where all Ben & Jerry’s stores give out free ice cream to thank their customers. The Her Campus SMCVT staff couldn’t wait to get go, and we have pictures to prove it!
When we arrived there was a huge line all the way to Rite Aid!
The line moved quickly and Alex & Lauren won bracelets in a trivia game.
Some other Her Campus staffers went with friends to celebrate the completion of a Global Comm project!

P-Day Shirts3/20/2013 |
Making shirts is a part of the tradition for P-Day. Check out how some of our staff has designed their shirts in the past! Alexandra Brenock: Emma, Vick, Cait, Merrill, and I had a Hunger Games theme for our shirts last year. They were intended to be camoflauge, but instead they turned out tye dyed. Either way, it worked out just fine! Lauren Mazzoleni: "Brianna, Emily, me, and Sophie ironed letters onto ours shirts to spell out P-Day. We each customized the back of our shirts with a common phrase we say and the number 12, which stood for 2012."

Winter Fashion: Never Out of Season11/14/2012 |
Do you wish you could wear your favorite summer outfit year-round? Just a few simple additions to any sundress can turn your warmer weather clothes into an appropriate choice for colder days. Sophomore Lauren Kopchik pairs her favorite floral frock with a big, cozy sweater, tights and a sturdy boot (hers are vintage!) in order to downplay the not-so-seasonal pattern. Top it off with a knit hat to keep your ears from freezing! Need more warmth? "Switch out the lightweight tights for heavier, wool ones or leggings," says Lauren, "and wear a peacoat over your dress when you're outside!" |
Alex Byrne '1410/27/2012 |
This week’s Campus Celebrity is one of our HC members. Nominated for her incredibly positive attitude and beautiful smile, Alex Byrne is one of the friendliest faces on campus! What year are you at Saint Mike’s? “I am a Junior at SMC.” What’s your major? “My major is Psychology with a minor in history.” What do you want to do after you graduate? “Growing up, when people asked me what I wanted to be, I always replied, "I want to do something that helps people and makes them smile!" Hopefully once I graduate SMC, I'll go on to grad school and become a Child and Adolescent Clinical Psychologist in order to fulfill my childhood dreams. Fingers crossed!” What are you involved in at Saint Mike’s? “I'm involved in many weekly activities with MOVE, a tour guide and blogger for the Founder's Society, VITA Team Leader, Eucharistic Minister and lector at the 7pm student mass, Student Spirit Committee for the SMC Research Symposium, and Her Campus Vice President of the Editorial Team.” What’s your favorite quote? “It would of course be, ‘Woof!’ (Alex’s word for any cute guy she sees!). Just kidding! In all seriousness though, Ralph Waldo Emerson has always been the person I turn to for my favorite quotes. ‘Never lose an opportunity of seeing anything that is beautiful… Welcome beauty in every fair face, in every fair sky, in every fair flower, and thank God for it as a cup of blessing’ and ‘To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children, to leave the world a better place, to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.’” How do you stay so happy? |

It's Time to Vote! Voter Registration Info.10/9/2012 |
So…it’s presidential election season! For many collegiettes™, that means it’s the first presidential election in which we can vote! Exciting? Yes. Intimidating? Also a yes. Confusing? Oh, most definitely, yes. However, it’s up to YOU to find out how to register to vote, to learn about the candidates, and to VOTE on November 6th! So here’s the deal about registering to vote…you have options! If you’re at school and haven’t registered to vote yet, you can register in that state (aka here in Vermont). However, if you would rather register in your home state (where you still live with your parents) you can do that too! It’s all about where you consider your true “home” and where you want to vote. One great resource for voting/voter registration info is Rock the Vote (you may have seen their star-studded commercials on TV and all over the intervnet). They have info for each state and it’s super easy to navigate. Keep in mind that you can register to vote in Vermont until October 31st! Know that you have several options when it comes to actually voting too. You can: 1) Vote on Election Day. This may seem obvious, but if you’re registered to vote at college you can go to the polls and vote that day. |
All About Internships: An Interview with 'The Intern Queen"9/18/2012 |
From our first semester of college, we are told over and over about the benefits of having an internship. They provide work experience, they help you decide which industry you want to work in, they’re what companies want to see on your resume when applying for a job, blah blah blah. With so much pressure on getting the perfect internship, it’s easy to shrug it off and put the whole ‘internship problem’ on the back burner. This is where someone who knows the ins-and-outs of internships, an internship veteran per se, can be of great use. Lauren Berger is the self-dubbed ‘Intern Queen’. Having held fifteen internships throughout her college career, Lauren is (how do we put this?) an internship expert. For us clueless college students, fear not! Internship advice is on its way! Not only does Lauren have an “Intern Queen” website (she created Intern Queen, Inc. and is CEO of the company!), but she recently published the book “All Work, No Pay,” in which she discusses all her best-kept internship secrets. Earlier this year, Lauren agreed to talk with me about the importance of an internship and shared some tips from her book on how to score your dream internship: The Value of an Internship |
