Not in the Swing of Things? Finish the Semester Strong with These Tips!

Still Not in the Swing of Things? How to Jump Start Progress to Finish Strong!

After breaks, it’s often difficult trying to get back in the “swing” of school. With a full course load and demanding professors, it seems like Stetson waits until the very last minute to assign papers and projects! Why is it that all of the work seems to come all at once at the end of the semester? For whatever reason, it’s here… WORK, and it needs to get done! Try these simple steps to begin progress towards finishing!

-Hit the Books Early!

It’s a Stetson student “trend”… Doing homework around 9-11pm in the DuPont-Ball Library. The Library is always filled with students during evening hours, which makes it hard to focus. But have you visited the library around 8:30am? It may sound horrific for you sleepy heads, but when it comes down to execution, HC can assure you that the morning hours are significantly less crowded!

-Hide and Seek? No… Hide and Study!

Try going upstairs in the library and finding a “study hide out spot”. You wont continuously bump into friends that distract you! It’s almost impossible to walk down the main drag of the library and NOT bump into a classmate or friend. Those short chat sessions add up! Save yourself time and HIDE! Find a comfortable nook away from the crowds in the basement or 2nd floor.

3 Things You Don’t Think You Can Do Over Spring Break

Spring Break is many times criticized for it’s reputation of being “the wildest week of the year”. Instead of being a “break”, this holiday consists of sleepless nights and hangovers. But why not think of Spring Break in a totally different way. . . a time to rejuvenate and recoup! For those of you not into the party scene, or you party girls who just want a REAL break, take a look at HC’s things you don’t think could happen on Spring Break.

Thing 1: Losing the Beer Belly

Vacations are known for being the time to “splurge” on tasty foods and sweets, but why not see this week as a time to jump-start your new lifestyle? With a full week of NO classes and little to do, that’s ample time to prepare healthy meals and hit the gym! This week could be a time where you detox your body of toxins (Processed foods, bad fat, toxic oils, fried foods) and begin to eat nutritious, healthy foods! Try making simple changes such as the ones listed below:

Switch this to that!

-       Bahama Mama (350 Cal) = Mimosa (89 Cal)

-       Fried Shrimp (445 Cal) = Grilled Shrimp (101 Cal)

-       Cheeseburger (359 Cal)= Turkey Wrap (230 Cal)

Dustin Dingus

2/11/2013

This week, HC got a chance to catch up with one of the premier golfers at Stetson University. Dustin Dingus, a freshmen from Palm Harbor, Florida has quickly made a name for himself on the golf course and is a key component to the success of the Stetson Golf Team. With this much success early on in his college career, he's an up and coming Campus Celeb you'll want to keep an eye on!

Q: How did you get started playing golf and when did you decide it was something you wanted to pursue in College?

I am truly blessed that I got started playing golf from a very young age, and I would say that my passion for the game came from my dad. He played on the PGA Tour for a short period of time in the early 1980’s, and he has been a club professional and PGA member for over 25 years. He always wanted what was best for me and didn’t want me to be narrow-minded and just play golf, so I played other sports including baseball and basketball up until my junior year of high school. I always wanted to be a professional golfer, but I didn’t really put the work into becoming one until my junior year of high school.

Q: What would you say is your greatest accomplishment thus far?

Layer it Baby:

The best way to make sure your prepared for the day is to dress in cute layers while also achieving that European look. If you notice, many times Europeans will wear layers such as a v-neck shirt, then throw on a cardigan, and over that a jean jacket… to add some flare pair this trend with a cute fashionable scarf with a pattern!

Bag it:

Try wearing a chic oversized tote that’s large enough to carry your schoolbooks as well as a change of clothes! Many times it will be a chilly morning, but warm up to be a hot and pleasant afternoon to lay by the pool! Bring your swimsuit and a cute cover up to change into for days like these and your good to go!

Christmas Break Countdown! How to loose those stubborn pounds FAST

12/5/2012

Christmas Break Countdown! How to loose stubborn pounds fast!

It’s Christmas time! Get ready for beautiful decorations, family time and of course, mounds and mounds of Christmas cookies, cakes and sweets! Although it may be hard to resist that fabulous looking coffee cake, it’s also important to remember that this is the time of year to celebrate the holidays! But how can I eat sweets and stay fit you ask? No worries, the HC team is here to help!

1.     Everything in Moderation!

Go ahead, eat the ginger bread cookie! But remember to only satisfy your craving. Don’t over eat on sweets and keep your caloric intake in mind! If you want to eat cake after dinner, skip the afternoon cookie! This way, you can still satisfy that sweet tooth without over eating. Try to stick to one “splurge” a day at the most!

2.     Who Spiked the Apple Cider???

Remember to treat alcohol as a dessert! Many people think that because it’s a liquid, that it’s “ok” to splurge on a few cocktails after dinner. Have fun, but remember that one cocktail could be as much as 300 calories just for one drink! That’s a lot for just liquid right? Try to choose between the solid sweets and liquid sweets… sometimes we have to make sacrifices!

3.     Feel Sprit of Winter!

Fall Frenzy!

11/17/2012

It's that time of the year! Break out your leather boots and knit scarves ladies! Our fav look this season is simple; leggings, a comfy high=low sweater, and a pair of leather boots. Perfect this look with a patterned scarf!

Stetson Guys TELL ALL: Things they LOVE and Things they HATE

10/25/2012

Ever wish you could venture into the mind of a man? Well now you can. HC got the inside scoop on what's hot and what's not according to Stetson men! We're about to tell you the secrets about how to pick up that dream guy just by your outfit.

NO Baggy Shirts:
Starting off with most importantly your choice of shirt... The biggest pet peeve, sadly, is when a girl wears a baggy shirt! I guess it takes away the fun of using their imagination when your figure, better--your boobs, aren't showing? Keep it in mind to also stay away from the sheer tops. Who would have thought that guys would enjoy a peek of the cleavage more than a see-through shirt?! Perhaps stop at American Apparel and pick up a nice onesy, or bodycon dress. You can't get tighter than that!
